Wie zijn de vrouwen die onze eeuwenoude sagen bevolken? Vaak zijn het lelijke, oude heksen die orgiën houden met de duivel, óf tere, jonge maagden die het van hun lieve gezichtje moeten hebben. Door dit soort verhalen steeds opnieuw te vertellen hebben deze stereotypen zich in ons collectieve geheugen genesteld en diepe sporen in onze samenleving nagelaten. Die krijgen we er alleen maar uit door er andere verhalen tegenover te zetten. Op een eigenzinnige en vaak geestige manier laat Posthuma zien wie de vrouwen uit de sagen werkelijk waren: geen monsters of heiligen, maar seksuele wezens – op leeftijd – met een eigen wil, een rijk innerlijk leven en tegenstrijdige eigenschappen. Net echte mensen dus.
